Omar Abdullah vs Lt Governor Manoj Sinha Over Jammu And Kashmir Statehood

Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing him of misleading people over the issue of statehood. Lt Governor Sinha said that statehood cannot be used as an excuse, adding that an elected government has all the powers it needs and should work for the welfare of the people.

"You can't use the excuse that work will take place only after statehood. The government has all the powers, and I want to convey forcefully that people shouldn't be fooled. Use your authority for the welfare of the people," Lt Governor Sinha said.

Omar Abdullah hit back sharply, asking the Lt Governor to focus on his own work and taking a swipe at him over the Pahalgam terror attack. The Chief Minister said the attack, in which 26 people were killed, happened under the watch of the Lt Governor, who is responsible for security and law and order in Jammu and Kashmir.

"We know our work. He should focus on his. Twenty-six of our guests were killed in the Pahalgam terrorist attack. It happened under his watch, and he is advising us to do our work," said Omar Abdullah.

The J&K Chief Minister said that during his previous six-year term as Chief Minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, there was not a single incident in which a tourist was harmed. He said that "had I been responsible for security," an incident like Pahalgam would never have taken place.

"Who is responsible for the security of J&K? It's not in my hands. Had it been in my hands, such a situation would not have taken place," he said.

The Chief Minister said he would continue to raise the issue of statehood and also speak about the promises made to the people in the Supreme Court and Parliament.

"Why do they fear statehood? Why don't they want to leave power? If a promise has been made to the people of J&K, and people voted on that promise, why is the promise of statehood still unfulfilled?" he asked.

Omar Abdullah said the Centre should explain what constitutes an appropriate time for the restoration of statehood. "How do you measure it? On what scale do you weigh the appropriate time for statehood? As Chief Minister, I should at least know the goal or target set for J&K's statehood," he said.

The Chief Minister also accused Lt Governor Sinha of failing to deliver on the development front over the last six years of central rule.

Jemimah Shares Emotional Moment With Her Father After Women's WC Show - Video

Jemimah Rodrigues shared an emotional moment with her parents in the stands after guiding India to the Women's ODI World Cup 2025 final with a victory over Australia on Thursday. Chasing a mammoth 339, Rodrigues looked in sublime form and her unbeaten 127 proved to be crucial as India clinched the match by 5 wickets. It was a special batting display from the 25-year-old who dominated the Australia bowlers and stitched a crucial partnership with Harmanpreet Kaur. Jemimah broke down after India registered the historic win and minutes later, she was seen meeting her family in the stands. The cricketer hugged her father and coach Ivan Rodrigues before speaking to her family members.

Jemimah Rodrigues struck a majestic century, the most important of her career, and with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur blasting 89 off 88 deliveries. India aced a stiff chase to dethrone Australia with a five-wicket win and set up a summit clash with South Africa in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup here on Thursday.

In one of the most memorable matches of her career, Rodrigues hammered an unbeaten 127 off 134 balls (14x4) and shared a 167-run partnership with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (89) as India reached 341/5 off 48.3 overs to overcome Australia's 338 all out in the second semifinal at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

India's chase of a mammoth target of 339 got off to a poor start as Shafali Verma lasted only five balls in the middle. Scoring 10 runs with two fours. Verma was drafted into the squad as a last-ditch replacement for the injured Pratika Rawal had an opportunity to make a sensational return to the squad in the all-important clash but could not stay longer at the crease.

Her opening partner and India's batting mainstay, Smriti Mandhana, scored a run-a-ball 24, given out by the TV umpire after Ultra Edge detected a faintest of faint edge behind to keeper Alyssa Healy on DRS review off Kim Garth, who claimed 2-29 in her first spell of five overs.

But the hosts found their saviours in Rodrigues, who came in to bat in the absence of Harleen Deol and made the most of the opportunity, and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur as they raised 167 runs for the second wicket partnership.

Dawood Ibrahim Aide Emerges As Drug Syndicate 'Kingpin', Arrested In Goa

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested Danish Chikna, a close aide of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim and "kingpin" of a drug syndicate, from Goa, officials said on Wednesday.

Danish Chikna alias Danish Merchant, who had been on the run, looked after operations of the drug network linked to Dawood's gang in the country, an official said.

The NCB has arrested Danish and three other persons and seized 1.341 kg of mephedrone from their possession, he said.

Based on intelligence inputs, the NCB Mumbai on September 18 intercepted a person in Pune, from whom 502 gm of mephedrone was seized.

In the immediate follow-up, 839 gm of the contraband was seized from another drug associate at the home of Danish and his wife in Mumbai, the official said.

During the probe, Danish, the "kingpin", and his wife were identified to be operating the drug syndicate. They had been on the run and travelled across multiple states to dodge the movement trail, he said.

After intensive follow-up action, they were located at a holiday resort in Goa.

The NCB team apprehended them from the resort in Goa on October 25. After interrogation, both were placed under arrest, the NCB said in a statement.

Danish is a habitual drug offender. The NCB and Rajasthan police had previously registered three cases against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, according to the official.

The Mumbai police have also registered seven criminal cases against him. The police had externed him, ordering him to stay out of the Mumbai municipal limits, the statement said.

Earlier this year, Mahhi addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding her marriage during an appearance on The Male Feminist podcast. Speaking candidly, she said, "Even if it is the case, why should I tell you? Are you my uncle? Will you pay my lawyer's fee? Why do people make such a big deal out of somebody's divorce or separation? I see people writing in my comments section, 'Mahi toh decent hai, Jay aisa hai' (She is decent, but Jay is not). Then somebody else writes, 'Jay accha hai, Mahi hi aise hai' (Jay is good, but she is not). They just want to blame someone. Do you even know the truth? What do you know?"

Babar Azam Brutally Trolled After Duck On T20I Return Against South Africa

Pakistan cricket team batter Babar Azam was dismissed for a duck during the first T20I encounter against South Africa in Rawalpindi on Tuesday. Babar, who last played a T20I for Pakistan back in December 2024, failed to impress on his return as he was dismissed by Corbin Bosch. In the sixth over of Pakistan's innings, Babar completely miscued his shot against a pacy length delivery from Bosch. It was a simple catch for Reeza Hendricks at cover as Babar's stay at the crease lasted just two balls. Social media was not happy with Babar's performance and the Pakistan batter was trolled brutally by the users.

Earlier, Babar also dropped a sitter at long-on that proved to be costly for Pakistan. The incident happened in the 17th over of South Africa's innings as George Linde slammed a delivery from Shaheen Afridi straight to Babar. However, despite making his ground, the ball bounced out of his hands.

Linde went on to score 36 off 22 balls as South Africa posted a total of 194/9 in 20 overs.

Pakistan XI: Saim Ayub, Sahibzada Farhan, Babar Azam, Salman Agha (c), Usman Khan (wk), Hasan Nawaz, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Abrar Ahmed

Why Didn't Cloud Seeding Cause Rain In Delhi? What IIT Kanpur Director Said

Attempts to induce rain through cloud seeding in parts of Delhi on Tuesday were "not completely successful" because the moisture content in the clouds was low and the process is not a magic bullet for the problem of pollution, but an SOS solution, IIT Kanpur Director Manindra Agarwal has said.

Speaking exclusively to NDTV on Tuesday, Agarwal, whose institute is collaborating with the Delhi government to carry out the experiment, also said attempts will be made again on Wednesday, and they are hoping for a better result.

Explaining that the mixture used by the team has only 20% silver iodide and the rest is a combination of rock salt and common salt, Agarwal said 14 flares were fired on Tuesday.

"There hasn't been any rain so far. So, in that sense, it was not completely successful. But, unfortunately, the clouds that are present today do not have very high moisture content. I am told it was only up to 15-20%. So, the possibility of causing rain with such low moisture content is not very high. But this trial has given more confidence to our team that we can continue conducting them," the IIT Kanpur director said.

"There have been conflicting reports of the predictions about rain today. Some say there will be rain, some say there won't be. But what our team found was that the cloud cover had very little moisture content. And this could be true about the part we flew over... So we do not expect any rain to occur today," he added.

Agarwal said two more such flights will be conducted on Wednesday, and the process will continue when there is cloud cover.

Asked whether cloud seeding could be a long-term solution to the persistent problem of pollution in Delhi, the IIT director was clear that it is not.

"It is an SOS solution. When you have a crisis situation, very high pollution, it is one of the methods one can attempt in order to bring down pollution. It is not a permanent solution. The permanent solution, of course, is to control the sources of pollution. And, ideally, we should reach a point when there is no need for cloud seeding, because there isn't any pollution. But until that happens, this is one tool which is available for reducing pollution to an extent," he explained.

The costs, he said, are high because the flights are being conducted from Uttar Pradesh, but those can be brought down substantially.

"Any attempt which leads to a reduction of pollution benefits everyone. And even though it is not a permanent solution, even if it rains after a few days, at least it can provide some relief," he said.

Government's Take

The Delhi government said in a report that the cloud seeding trials helped bring about a reduction in particulate matter in places where they were conducted. The report said two precipitation events were recorded - 0.1 mm of rain in Noida at 4 pm and double that in Greater Noida at the same time.

"Before cloud seeding, the PM 2.5 level was 221, 230, and 229 in Mayur Vihar, Karol Bagh, and Burari, respectively, which reduced to 207, 206, and 203, respectively, after the first seeding. Similarly, PM 10 level was 207, 206, 209, which got reduced to 177, 163, 177 at Mayur Vihar, Karol Bagh, and Burari, respectively," said the report.

Actor Ishitta Arun has found herself at the center of an online storm after a video from the funeral of her uncle, advertising icon Piyush Pandey, surfaced online.

The clip showed Ishitta smiling and conversing with others, which drew criticism from some social media users who felt her demeanor was inappropriate for such a solemn occasion.

What's Happening

  • Sharing a heartfelt note alongside a picture of Piyush Pandey, she wrote, "Grief isn't a single script. And when you're saying goodbye to a man who laughed louder than anyone else, remembering him through laughter isn't disrespect. It's continuity. It's muscle memory. It's knowing who he really was."
  • Responding directly to those criticising her, Ishitta continued, "What you saw was us laughing at his line- a line only he could deliver. If you had known him, even in passing, you wouldn't have needed this explained."
  • She further added, "We don't stage grief. We don't mute memory to make strangers comfortable. We remember him honestly- as laughter, courage, and life itself. Next time-know the story before you comment on the moment."

Rajasthan Officer's Wife Earns Rs 37.54 Lakh 'Salary' From 2 Firms Without Working

In nearly two years, she never went to either office yet earned Rs 37.54 lakh in 'salary' as an alleged employee of the companies.

The entire matter came to light when a complainant filed a petition in the Rajasthan High Court.

Pradyuman Dixit, a joint director in the Department of Information Technology at RajComp Info Services, received illegal payments through his wife, Poonam Dixit, who was falsely shown as employed by two private companies - OrionPro Solutions and Treegen Software Limited - that received government tenders.

Acting on the Rajasthan High Court's order on September 6 last year, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) began a preliminary inquiry on July 3 this year.

In return for passing the tender, Pradyuman directed the companies -OrionPro Solutions and Treegen Software Limited - to employ his wife and provide a monthly salary.

The ACB investigation revealed that OrionPro Solutions and Treegen Software Limited transferred money to Poonam Dixit's five personal bank accounts between January 2019 and September 2020. The total payment amounted to Rs 37,54,405, described as salary.

Poonam Dixit never visited the two offices during the entire period.

Pradyuman Dixit himself approved his wife's fake attendance reports.

The ACB investigation revealed that Poonam Dixit was receiving salaries from two companies simultaneously. While falsely employed at OrionPro Solutions, she also received payments from Treegen Software Limited under the guise of 'freelancing.'

During this period, both companies also received government tenders.

Microsoft Employee, 62, Laid Off After 20 Years: "It Feels Like A Betrayal"

Joe Friend, a 62-year-old former Microsoft director, was laid off in May this year after dedicating nearly two decades to the tech giant. Six months prior, Friend, a director of product management leading a team of nine, heard rumours of company restructuring impacting managers. He didn't think his role was at risk, but he was mistaken. In May, he found out he and 14 others in his group, including four managers, were laid off. Friend shared his experiences with Business Insider, discussing his three tenures at Microsoft, key takeaways from his time there and the financial implications of his layoff.

Notably, he had planned to stay at Microsoft until his 65th birthday, ensuring stock grants continued to vest, and then consider retirement or a career shift. "I wasn't entirely surprised by the layoffs. I was surprised to get caught up in them," said the 62-year-old.

This isn't Friend's first stint at Microsoft. He joined in 1994 as a lead program manager, working on Microsoft Word. In 1997, he and his family moved to Indonesia, where he spent over six years with an international NGO.

When he returned to the US in 2003, he thought about continuing in the nonprofit sector but found it wasn't financially sustainable. So, he returned to the tech world and rejoined Microsoft. Friend spent the next 14 years at the company, but by early 2017, he began to feel burned out and decided it was time for a change.

He interviewed at several large firms but quickly realised they weren't the right fit. He then joined the developer platform Stack Overflow, which gave him the change of pace he was looking for. But soon, Microsoft reached out again. Someone he knew at the company encouraged him to join their team. Though hesitant at first, he agreed to listen, and was impressed by what he saw.

"I was really impressed with what I saw as significant cultural change at the company and agreed to go back," he said. Friend returned to Microsoft in 2018 and stayed until May 2025, when he found out he had been laid off.

The layoff feels like a betrayal to Friend, who believes Microsoft has broken its unwritten promise of job security and financial rewards for loyal employees. He's now considering alternative paths, prioritising passion over pay.

Following his layoff, Friend received his regular pay until mid-July, when he got a substantial lump-sum severance package roughly equivalent to his projected earnings for the rest of the year. He acknowledged being in a stable financial situation, allowing him the breathing room to plan his next move.

"I'd rather earn $50,000 a year doing something I'm excited about," he said, ruling out another Big Tech job.

Microsoft's layoffs are part of a broader trend in the tech industry, with companies like Google, Intel, and Amazon also reducing management layers. While overall layoffs remain low, tech workers have been disproportionately affected.

Aus Great Asks Rohit, Virat About 2027 WC. Reply Keeps Everyone Guessing

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma did not make any clear statements regarding the 2027 ODI World Cup despite multiple queries from Australia great Adam Gilchrist. The two stalwarts were quite impressive on Saturday as they stitched together a stunning partnership to guide India to victory in the third ODI encounter against Australia in Sydney. While Rohit slammed a record-breaking ton, Kohli provided perfect support with an unbeaten 74. Following the match, both Rohit and Virat thanked the Australian crowd for their support and spoke about their experiences of playing in Australia.

"We've loved coming to this country, we've played some good cricket, thank you guys for coming in big numbers and supporting us," Kohli said.

"Thank you Australia," Rohit added.

Rohit, who received the Player of the Series award for his stunning show, was once again asked by Gilchrist about his journey to the ODI World Cup 2027. However, he did not give a direct reply.

"I love playing in Australia and in general, Sydney. It's a great ground, great crowd, great pitch as well. So, when you come to places like this, you want to challenge yourself as a batter, as a player. And that is what I expected. I never thought for one second that it is going to be easy. I love doing what I do. And I hope I continue to do that," Rohit said.

There has been a lot of chatter over Rohit and Virat's ODI futures in the recent past. Both players have already announced their retirements from Tests as well as T20I cricket. The decision to appoint Shubman Gill as the ODI skipper sparked conversations about the stalwarts possibly retiring from ODIs as well.

India won the third ODI encounter by 9 wickets but ended up losing the three-match ODI series 2-1.

On Camera, Man Urinates Out Of Moving Thar In Gurugram

A man has taken car 'stunts' to a whole new level in Gurugram.

A video which is going viral shows a Mahindra Thar being driven recklessly near the Sadar Bazaar area in the city while the passenger stands on the side step with the door open and urinates from the moving vehicle.

The incident took place on Wednesday and was caught on camera by someone in a car behind the Thar. As the video started being widely shared, the police took note and registered a case.

Investigation revealed that the car was being driven by 23-year-old Mohit and the passenger who did the deed was Anuj, 25, both residents of Jhajjar in Haryana.

Both of them were arrested on Friday and the Thar has also been seized.

"Investigation revealed that the Thar vehicle used in the crime belonged to Mohit. Mohit was driving the vehicle carelessly and negligently, while Anuj committed the shameful act of urinating out of the moving vehicle," said Sandeep Kumar, police spokesperson, Gurugram.

Man Cornered In Mumbai Flight Over Not Speaking Marathi Shares Ordeal

In an incident of unruly behaviour that unfolded midair, a passenger forced another flyer to speak in Marathi if he wanted to stay in Mumbai. The incident, which was recorded on a mobile camera, happened on an Air India flight to Mumbai. A woman was seen repeatedly asking a co-passenger to speak in Marathi.

Mahi Khan, the passenger who the woman cornered inside the cabin midair to speak in Marathi and with no way out of the situation, shared his experience in a conversation with NDTV.

"I called the crew, but they didn't do much. Air India is yet to take any action on this passenger," he said. "We talk about unity in diversity. Why don't we actually have unity in reality?"

Khan said he has many Marathi friends, but none has ever forced him to speak in any particular language. "All languages have beauty if spoken with the right intent," he added.

Khan said it was a 6.25 am flight and he was awake by 4.30 am. After boarding and take-off, he said he wanted to recline the seat a little bit.

"... The moment I pressed the button and reclined my seat, a bottle which was on the tray of a woman behind my seat slipped and fell. She shouted at me in Marathi and I didn't understand," Khan said.

"I looked at her and said 'sorry ma'am'. She again said something in Marathi which I didn't understand. I asked her if she could tell me in Hindi or English so that I could respond. I had no idea if she was scolding me or telling me something," Khan said.

The matter escalated when the woman pointed out that he was flying to Mumbai but can't speak Marathi.

Khan, a YouTube influencer, also happened to have strong views on what he called "language wars". He even made a video on the whole issue six months ago.

"I had done a lot of research on this topic and the person started that thing [forced to speak Marathi] again... I picked up my phone and started recording. I asked her whether it was mandatory to speak in Marathi. She shouted at me, and said I am going to Mumbai and so I have to speak in Marathi," Khan said.

Soon, Khan said he called the crew for help, after which the woman allegedly threatened him with "showing what misbehaviour means" after landing in Mumbai.

"I didn't argue with her, despite her bad tone... the crew came and I explained the entire scenario to them... Is it mandatory to speak in Marathi in Air India? The crew said of course not. Then I asked why she is misbehaving with me. You will hear me say this in the video. She replied 'I will tell you in Marathi. Once you land in Mumbai, I will tell you," Khan told NDTV.

The YouTuber has been living in Mumbai for nearly four years. He said he has many Marathi friends.

"They have never behaved in that manner. They always talk in Hindi or English. Although there are certain moments when I have also tried to learn Marathi... If you tell somebody to learn your regional language, you have to say it in a welcoming tone. Only then people will start understanding your language. If you start forcing your language on others, people will start perceiving your language in a negative manner," Khan said.

"There's a Statue of Unity in India. Then why are we not talking about unity in reality? Why are we dividing each other? You're from Mumbai, you're from Lucknow, you're from Calcutta. This is what is happening and this is what a discrimination is," he told NDTV.

Maharashtra has in recent times seen several incidents of locals forcing people who came from outside the state to speak in Marathi. Some have been physically threatened and assaulted over the matter.

Shubman Gill Pinpoints Reason After India Go Down vs Australia In 2nd ODI

India captain Shubman Gill admitted that dropped catches and a total that was just adequate cost his side dearly, as Australia clinched the ODI series with a disciplined all-round performance on Wednesday. India lost the second ODI by two wickets after a seven-wicket defeat in the first match at Perth. In this match, the Indian fielders were not at their sharpest, spilling at least three chances-including one off Matthew Short, who made a fine 74 off 78 balls.

"We had just enough runs on the board. It's never easy when you drop a couple of chances and try to defend that kind of total," Gill said during the post-match presentation ceremony.

The young skipper didn't find any demons in the pitch either.

"In the first game, the toss was more crucial because of the rain, but in this one, both teams played for almost 50 overs. The wicket did a little early on, but it settled nicely after 15-20 overs," Gill said.

The 26-year-old praised senior batter Rohit Sharma for his fighting knock of 73.

"It's never easy coming back and playing after a long time. The initial phase was challenging, but I'm very pleased with how he batted. He fought well; I'd say he missed out on a really big knock," the India skipper said.

Australia, led by Mitchell Marsh, displayed depth in both departments, and the home skipper hailed his bowling attack and the composure of the younger batters.

"Hazlewood was unbelievable. Our bowling unit kept trying to pick wickets. It was awesome batting from the youngsters-the future is bright for Australian cricket. We'll certainly enjoy the series win, but won't celebrate too much tonight. India are a fantastic side, great experience," Marsh said.

Leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who was named Player of the Match for his four-wicket haul, once again proved decisive in the middle overs.

"Nice to beat India. It's always been a good battle against them, particularly in one-day cricket. Two teams that have adapted to the conditions really well. They're the best team in the world," Zampa said.

He credited Australia's pacers for setting up the platform: "Those guys have been owning the powerplay for a long time... it makes my job easier through the middle. I've been very grateful and lucky. And then you've got the guys coming in-Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis-doing their thing through the middle. It makes my job a lot easier. The beauty of Mitch (Marsh) is that he's chilled, relaxed, never too emotional. We run our own show out there with the ball," he said.

Dabangg Director Abhinav Kashyap Calls Aamir Khan "Sabse Chaalaak Lomdi"

Filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap has once again made waves with his outspoken remarks on Bollywood's power structure. In a recent interview with Bollywood Thikana, Kashyap launched a scathing critique of Aamir Khan, sharing his personal experiences of working with the actor during ad film shoots and accusing him of being overly manipulative and controlling.

"Working With Him Is Exhausting"

Recalling his experience with Aamir, Kashyap said that while the actor may be celebrated as a perfectionist, working with him is far from easy.

"Wo sabse chaalaak lomdi hai. Batla. Wo Salman se bhi chota hai height me lekin kya manipulative aadmi hai. Aur sabse shaatir chor hai. I made 2-3 ads with Aamir. He is very particular, and working with him is exhausting; he drains you out. He interferes in everything - editing, direction, everything. It's an entire ecosystem maintained for strict control."

The filmmaker described Aamir as someone who dominates every aspect of production, making it difficult for others to freely contribute.

Calls Aamir's Perfectionism A "Myth"

Kashyap also took a jab at Aamir's much-talked-about perfectionism, suggesting that the actor's approach adds little to the final result.

"Having worked so much, I observe that if Aamir gives 25 takes, his first and last are often the same. He watches each of his takes and then says, 'One more, a little more, this is left, that is left,' but ultimately, there's nothing," he said.

According to Kashyap, Aamir's insistence on endless retakes gives the illusion of depth and effort but often leads nowhere creatively.

Questions Filmmakers' Repeated Collaboration With Aamir

The Dabangg director also questioned why some of the industry's most respected filmmakers continue to collaborate with Aamir despite his alleged interference.

"Rajkumar Hirani is a very strong filmmaker and should move on to work with other actors and make his own films. But he still goes to Aamir. Rakesh Omprakash Mehra and Rajkumar Hirani - I respect them - they are very successful. So why do people keep meeting at Aamir Khan's house? What is it in him that others don't have?"

Questions Aamir Khan's Social Responsibility

Shifting focus to Aamir's influence beyond cinema, Kashyap raised questions about the actor's social contributions.

"The stars you talk about earn well and contribute to society. During floods, for example, what has Aamir Khan done? His biggest hit is Dangal, which was very successful. He claims he earned 2000 crore rupees from China," he said.

He went on to refer to Mahavir Phogat, whose life inspired Dangal, and criticised Aamir for allegedly refusing to help him further.

"I read somewhere that Mahavir Phogat, whose story inspired Dangal, requested to open an Akhada in Haryana for training children. But it was reported that Aamir Khan refused. How much does it cost to open an Akhada? All that money was for Mahavir Phogat's story, so I understand he doesn't owe him anything. Perhaps he paid for the rights," the filmmaker added.

Kashyap concluded by claiming that Aamir oversteps his boundaries as an actor, often taking over creative decisions.

Gill's Expression Speaks Volumes After 'Pakistan Zindabad' Chant In Adelaide

Shubman Gill, the captain of the Indian cricket team, had a bizarre experience on Wednesday. While taking a stroll through the streets of Adelaide - where India is set to play Australia in the second ODI on Thursday - a fan approached Gill, shook hands, and was then heard, in a viral video, unexpectedly saying, "Pakistan Zindabad." Gill's stoic reaction to the statement spoke volumes about his composure and restraint. However, NDTV cannot independently verify the authenticity of the audio in the viral clip.

Team India's senior pro Virat Kohli, vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, and skipper Shubman Gill opted out of the team's second training session ahead of their second ODI contest against Australia at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday. While fans gathered in good numbers to catch a glimpse of India's top guns practising in the nets, the three senior cricketers skipped the optional session, with only Rohit Sharma from India's top-order lineup taking part.

The veteran Indian opener did some knocking, faced casual throwdowns, and focused on his timing during the 15-20 minutes he spent in the nets.

Kohli and Gill did not have a memorable outing against the Aussies in the first ODI, with the former dismissed for an eight-ball duck and the latter scoring just 10 runs off 18 balls.

Iyer also struggled to get going in the rain-marred affair, managing only 11 runs from 24 deliveries before being dismissed by Josh Hazlewood.

KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel batted in the nets, with Rahul also seen going through wicketkeeping drills.

Team India primarily focused on bowling during the session. Bowling coach Morne Morkel was seen in a deep discussion with pace spearhead Mohammed Siraj, working on seam position and loading.

Markers were placed at the good-length area as Siraj and Prasidh Krishna bowled in the nets. Nitish Kumar Reddy, who looked in good form with the bat during his debut in the series opener in Perth on Sunday, focused on his bowling in the second training session.

Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav continued practising in the nets, and Yashasvi Jaiswal also rolled his arm over.

A video is being widely shared in which a woman can be seen repeatedly slapping the security guard of a housing complex in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida.

In the CCTV footage, the woman can be seen grabbing the security guard by the collar in the building and repeatedly slapping him. She then drags him outside the building and continues to slap him.

The guard, Rajkumar Yadav, said that he has been on duty at Tower 7 of the Presithum Society in Greater Noida's Sector 25 for the past month. He was on duty as usual on Saturday evening when a resident of the complex, Anju Sharma, arrived and started assaulting him without any provocation, he alleged.

He said that a few people tried to rescue him, but the woman misbehaved with them as well.

Yadav, who is from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh and works for a security agency, then reached the Dankaur police station along with some other residents of the complex and filed a complaint against the woman.

Police station in-charge Munendra Singh said that a case has been registered based on the security guard's complaint and an investigation is on.

DDLJ At 30: Inside Maratha Mandir's Eternal Romance With SRK-Kajol's Film

In the heart of Mumbai, tucked between the chaos of traffic and the aroma of cutting chai, stands a theatre that has defied time - Maratha Mandir. Its old-world charm greets you even before you enter - the classic marquee letters, the faded posters, the single-screen aura that's slowly disappearing from the city's skyline. But step inside, and you realise something extraordinary - here, love still plays every day at 11:30 AM sharp.

For thirty years now, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge - or DDLJ, as an entire generation lovingly calls it - has been running at this very theatre. Not just running but thriving. In a city where every Friday brings a new release and where cinematic fads change faster than Instagram trends, DDLJ continues to pull in crowds, sometimes outnumbering newer films.

Thirty years on, DDLJ isn't just a film that runs - it's a heartbeat that refuses to fade.

It's Diwali, and while India woke up to festive rituals, a few chose to start their day with their first love - cinema. Outside Maratha Mandir, it was a different kind of festival. The film's 30th anniversary had turned the usually quiet morning show into a celebration. A crowd gathered well before showtime - some clutching tickets, others posing for photos in front of the iconic poster. There were hand-painted placards, posters, and a line that snaked around the theatre entrance.

Among the crowd stood a father who first watched DDLJ at Maratha Mandir when he was sixteen. He was back now with his wife - who was watching it here for the first time - and their three kids, aged ten, seven, and three.

"I wanted them to feel what we did," he said, smiling. "Watching DDLJ here is not just watching a movie, it's an experience."

Another father had travelled over 2,000 kilometres from Shantiniketan, West Bengal, with his teenage daughter.

"She's interested in acting and is a huge SRK fan," he said proudly, holding up his ticket. "When she said she wanted to watch DDLJ on the big screen, I decided to bring her here. We need to change with time, but some films are timeless."

A woman standing in the queue held up a Swiss cowbell. When asked about it later, she smiled and said, "I travelled to Switzerland just to visit all the DDLJ locations. This bell is from the same shop where Raj buys it for Simran. Watching the film again here feels like coming full circle."

There were also three Swiss tourists in line, each holding their ticket with excitement.

"We knew about this film and that parts of it were shot in Switzerland," one of them said. "But watching it here, in this theatre, is different. SRK is a legend."

Inside the theatre, the nostalgia deepened. The familiar smell of popcorn, the faint creak of wooden seats, the aroma of oily samosas - everything felt like stepping back in time. The moment the opening notes of Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye filled the hall, the crowd erupted. It's Kajol's introduction song, but the cheers were reserved for Shah Rukh Khan's grand entry as Raj. When he finally appears on screen, arms wide open, the theatre broke into applause and whistles.

When Raj extended his hand to Simran in that legendary train scene, the hall turned into a sea of cheers. Dialogues were spoken in unison, every punchline met with applause, every emotional moment followed by sighs. Songs like Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam became collective karaoke sessions - strangers singing together, eyes lit with joy.

Through the doors, you could hear the film's dialogues and songs spilling into the theatre lobby. In a dimly lit corner office sat Manoj Pandey, the manager of Maratha Mandir for over two decades.

Speaking about the moment, he said, "We want people to enjoy, so we've never increased the prices - stalls are still Rs 30, and balcony seats Rs 50. When the film first released, it came as a physical print; now it's digital. We've evolved with time, so the audience keeps enjoying it. There are days when DDLJ has more audience than new releases."

As the end credits rolled, no one rushed to leave. People stood, clapping, smiling, some taking photos of the screen as if to capture the feeling forever. Outside, fans brought out a cake with the film's iconic scene - Raj and Simran embracing in the yellow mustard fields - printed on it, cutting it to mark 30 years of love, cinema, and magic.

Because inside Maratha Mandir, it isn't just a movie playing - it's a ritual, a shared memory, a timeless story that continues to unite generations.

Even after three decades, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge remains what it has always been - a celebration of love, of cinema, and of that undying hope that somewhere, someone will still say, "Bade bade deshon mein aisi chhoti chhoti baatein hoti rehti hain."

And at Maratha Mandir, that love story still plays on.

Passenger's Power Bank Catches Fire On Board IndiGo Flight At Delhi Airport

A passenger's power bank caught fire on board a Dimapur-bound IndiGo plane while taxiing at the Delhi airport on Sunday, which was extinguished by the cabin crew, sources said.

No injuries were reported in the incident, and all passengers and crew on board were safe, IndiGo said.

The airline said in a statement that flight 6E 2107 operating from Delhi to Dimapur, Nagaland, on October 19 returned to bay due to a minor fire triggered by a passenger's personal electronic equipment stored in the seat-back pocket on board.

The sources said a power bank caught fire when the aircraft was taxiing at the airport.

"The crew managed the situation quickly by diligently following the standard operating procedure, and the incident was controlled within seconds," the statement said.

According to information available on flight tracking website Flightradar24.com, the flight AI2107, operated with an Airbus A320 neo aircraft, took off from the Delhi airport at 14:33 hours and landed at Dimapur (Nagaland) at 16:45 hours. The flight was scheduled to take off from the Delhi airport at 12:25 hours.

Relevant authorities were informed immediately in line with the set protocol, IndiGo said, adding that after all the necessary checks, the aircraft was cleared for operations.

"We thank our valued customers for remaining calm and cooperative during this incident. Our teams made all possible efforts to minimise inconvenience to passengers, including offering them refreshments," the airline said.

Details about the number of passengers on board the flight were not available.

Earlier this week, a lithium battery kept in the overhead compartment of an Air China aircraft caught fire. The plane was operating from Hangzhou to Seoul, as per reports.

10,000-Foot Drop, Pilot Injured: Boeing 737 Windshield Cracks Midair

A United Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 flight travelling from Denver to Los Angeles was forced to make an emergency landing after its windshield cracked midair, injuring one of the pilots.

The incident occurred on October 16, during flight UA1093, which was carrying 140 passengers and crew. The plane was flying at 36,000 feet when the damage was discovered.

According to reports, the aircraft descended to 26,000 feet before safely landing at Salt Lake City International Airport. Passengers were later rebooked on another aircraft, a Boeing 737 MAX 9, and reached Los Angeles after a six-hour delay.

Why Did The Windshield Crack?

Windshield cracks, while rare, do happen in aviation. But details surrounding the cause and the pilots' injuries make this case an unusual one.

Images shared online allegedly show burnt marks on the cracked windshield and bruising on one pilot's arm. This means that it was not a routine structural crack.

The aircraft was around 322 kilometres southeast of Salt Lake City when the crew spotted the damage and decided to divert. The pilots quickly followed emergency procedures, descending and landing safely.

Aviation enthusiasts believe that space debris or a small meteorite might have caused the impact, based on the scorch marks and unusual damage pattern on the windshield.

Typically, aircraft windshields are designed to withstand bird strikes and major pressure changes, but an object travelling at high speeds could easily breach the threshold.

United Airlines confirmed that no passengers were injured and described the pilot's condition as minor bruising. The airline has not yet commented on what caused the crack.

In a separate incident, on October 18, a United Airlines plane heading for its gate clipped the tail of another United aircraft at Chicago's O'Hare Airport. No one was hurt, and the 113 passengers were able to leave the plane after a delay, United officials said in a statement.

'Explore All Options': Harvard Professor On Indians Wanting To Study In US

Urging India to invest more in science, Tarun Khanna, the Jorge Paulo Lemann professor at the Harvard Business School, has said no country has escaped middle-income status without doing so.

In an insightful presentation followed by an interaction at the NDTV World Summit 2025 on Saturday, the professor also spoke about the need for students from India to look at all options, given the uncertainty in the US, the urgency for the world to act on climate change and what India needs to do to become a superpower.

Asked why India has not been able to showcase public investment in science, Khanna said the problem is not restricted to the country.

"I think most developing countries - we are currently what is called a low middle-income country... I would like us all to internalise that no country has escaped middle-income status without investing in science ever. It has not happened, so we have to do it," he said.

Citing an example of an interaction with CEOs in which only one said they had a proper conversation with a scientist in the past year, the professor said there is something stopping entrepreneurs from thinking of scientists and academic institutions as resources for ideas.

"The scientists dismiss the entrepreneurs, the entrepreneurs dismiss the scientists, and we are locked in this mutual suspicion which needs to be debugged... I think we need to try a lot of experiments to see how to debug that process to break that cycle of mistrust," Khanna said.

To a question on whether India can stand its own against China and the US, the professor said the country has a large young population and a very large market that it can leverage.

"But the second thing I would say is if we don't have our own science and our own scientific prowess, we are always going to be hostage to somebody else who has a better set of cards to play. So we better get our scientific act together. Otherwise, I think it's going to be very hard to be a superpower of any sort. That's just the reality. The good news is it's doable," he emphasised.

Along the same lines, Khanna said while startups and quick economic winds are good, India also needs to invest in, and focus on, areas which need a longer time horizon.

"I gave you a couple of examples from China just because it is the one country that has outstripped everybody, and so I think it is deserving of some introspection. Those are returns in multiple orders of magnitude that are higher than what we are pursuing - 100 times, 1,000 times, 10,000 times greater. So we need to play in the big leagues," he said.

US As Educational Destination

Asked about how the US is for Indian students, given the uncertainty and the shift in policies under the Trump administration, the professor said they should look at all options.

"Anybody who reads the news would know higher education is going through a tumultuous time and my university, Harvard, is no exception. These are uncertain times, and when students ask me 'should we be considering the United States?', my honest answer is you should consider all the options," Khanna said.

"At this point, we have plenty of interesting universities that are starting up in India, not just the IITs but liberal arts institutions, including Ashoka, Plaksha and FLAME. We have universities in Canada and the United Kingdom that are capitalising on the US uncertainty at this point, and are competing for talent. And, in the end, competition for talent is a good thing. It is good for the students, it is good for the academics and I just hope that the policy uncertainty in the United States dies down," he said.

Worrying Trends

On two trends that he feels are worrying for the world, the professor said he is worried about rising inequality and climate change.

"Markets have an uncanny ability to allocate resources to whoever is able to use them well at that moment, but they also seem to be generating quite a bit of inequality," he said.

"And the other one is managing the carbon footprint. There are seven environmental thresholds that constitute tipping points and the world has already gone over the tipping point for six out of the seven. So I think we are in a very precarious place as a human race vis-a-vis using too much carbon. It is fantastic to see India being so open to renewable energy," he said.

Rapid Fire

During a rapid fire, Khanna was asked to describe Prime Minister Narendra Modi in one word and he said "hyper-prepared". He generated laughter soon after when, asked the same question about US President Donald Trump, he replied, "no idea".

On the NDTV World Summit, he said it was really fun to meet people from all walks of life.
